Celebrating Radio: Sounds from the Past

The Salon
10am – 7pm
Free admission

The introduction of radio in the early 20th century sent ripples of change throughout Singapore, opening windows to other cultures and bringing the stories of distant events to many homes. From its experimental beginnings to its use as an influential wartime medium, and its roles in entertainment and shaping society, Celebrating Radio: Sounds from the Past traces the evolution of Singapore’s broadcasting history from the 1930s to 1980s. Items on display include a phonograph dating back to the 1920s, radio permits and photographs, as well as a selection of radios from different eras.

Children's Activity Area

In this specially designed children’s activity area within the Celebrating Radio: Sounds from the Past exhibition, your little ones can have a go at being a radio DJ in a broadcasting studio and learn more about children’s radio programmes in the past. Join your young ones in designing their own vinyl record album cover or creating a vintage radio box! Plus, try out various instruments and props to create audio effects used in radio plays in the past and even today.

This 30-minute interactive tour is available for pre-schoolers. The tours are limited to 15 children on a first-come-first-served basis.
