The front block of the museum building dates back to 1887. It features an elegant neo-Palladian design, a European style of architecture characterised by a highly symmetrical façade and the use of pediments above windows.
The Furniture Design Showcase takes you on a journey of creativity and innovation with winning pieces from emerging design talents of the Furniture Design Award (FDA) and Furniture- Lifestyle-Innovations-Perspectives (FL!P).Responding to this year's theme of "TENSION" participants of winning pieces in the Students and Young Designers categories designed and created pieces of furniture to reflect their perspective on the theme while retaining their functional purposes. Visitors would also see other winning pieces from the Open Category, which were not confined to the theme, as well as selected pieces from the 4th FL!P Challenge.In the FL!P challenge, participants were required to create innovative and original pieces of furniture in response to the theme of "EclectiCity" through the mix and match use of the red oak and yellow poplar wood, courtesy of the American Hardwood Export Council.
