Held in conjunction with A Story of the Image: Old and New Masters of Antwerp. In collaboration with Singapore Tyler Print Institue
This is a beginner's guide into the world of prints, where you will learn about the development of the print industry and the different print techniques and processes available. Starting with a guided tour of a print exhibition and workshop facilities at the Singapore Tyle Print Institue (STPI), participants will get a historical overview of this aesthetically rich art form, its relationship with paper, and how to identify the different techniques like etching, engraving, woodcut and lithograph, which are still widely used by contemporary artists today. This will include a print demonstration by a professional print maker at STPI.
Participants will then travel to the National Museum of Singapore to see a rare collection of prints done in the 16th and 17th century by print masters in A Story of the Image: Old & New Masters From Antwerp exhibition, where they will gain an understanding on how the print industry proliferated the use and commercialisation of images from paintings that were once only accessible to the rich and elite.
